Airforms, Inc. announced today that they have been granted FAA Approval of a Global Alternative Method Of Compliance (AMOC) to paragraph (b)(1) and (b)(2) of AD 93-23-13. Airforms demonstrated that installation of their FAA PMA Approved baffle assemblies or their silicone seal kits on PA31(-310) aircraft provide an equivalent level of safety as the AD mandated seals.

“This FAA approval terminates the 50 hour inspection requirement of the baffle seals in accordance with section (c)(2) of the AD, providing relief to PA31 operators and lowering their maintenance costs,” said Steve Hunter, Airforms Sales and Marketing Executive. “Moving forward, we will continue to seek ways to make general aviation more affordable by providing products that cut maintenance costs and provide value to aircraft owners everywhere.”

Airforms had previously been granted approval of a Global AMOC for their FAA Approved baffles for the PA31-325/-350, which terminated the 50 hour baffle seal inspection requirement on those aircraft.

Airforms is the world’s leading supplier of replacement engine baffles for a wide range of general aviation aircraft; products also include an expanding line of turboprop aircraft PMA parts and STCs. Airforms maintains an FAA approved manufacturing system for PMA parts.

Airforms designed this STC to help operators keep the nose gear linkage tight and shimmy-free. As the torque link joints loosen over time the nose gear is prone to shimmy, especially when operating the larger diameter nose wheel. This STC acknowledges the fact that wear is going to happen over the life of the gear, but by providing oversized pins and a carefully designed set of tools, wear can be removed incrementally to keep the nose gear operating like new. Other options for nose gear maintenance require that the entire nose gear be removed and sent off to be repaired by a repair station. This STC allows the gear to remain on the aircraft and the specialized tool kit allows the wear points to be reamed to exact sizes, even in the field. We've put a lot of thought into this and we truly hope that this STC will dramatically reduce the number of nose gear swaps you must accomplish to keep your Caravan operating. This STC will result in significant reduction in maintenance cost over the life of the aircraft.
